Pre-season finishes with defeat / Charter Standard presented

Thamesmead finished preparations for the kick off to the 2009/10 season with a 2-1 home defeat against Ashford Town. Read full report here.
Before the match, Club President, Albert Panting (pictured far right) was presented with the clubs F.A. Charter Standard award from David James (Senior Develoment Officer, London F.A., left) and Charter Standard Officer, David Miller (right).
Congratulations to Albert and all at the club who have worked so hard to attain the quality standard of coaching, administration and development.

Mead get the better of Aveley
Thamesmead Town 2 Aveley 1
Thamesmead continued successful pre-season preparations with a 2-1 home win over Ryaman Premier new boys, Aveley. A skillful Andy Counstable lobbed shot put Mead in the lead just before half time then a long range effort from Lea Dawson doubled the lead. Aveley pulled a late goal back, but The Mead's second half dominance paid off.

Jenjay makes the grade
Janay Mohamed, Thamesmead girls U14 defender has been selected for the Kent Under 16s squad, such is her ability.
Jenjay, a socal student, has been playing since the age of 9 and is already showing promise and encouraging her team mates. Congratulations on her achievement, let's hope this selection leads to bigger things.

Constable hatrick reels in Fisher

A hatrick from forward Andy Counstable secured another pre-season victory at Bayliss Avenue against Fisher.
Pre-season preparations are rounded off on Saturday with a home match against Ashford.

A Mead goal on 35 minutes from Danny Moore a header from a hanging cross was cancelledout on 87 minutes as Thamesmead put in an entertaining display of football with solid defending.
Mead open against Vase semi-finalists

Thamesmead Town expect a big crowd for the opening day of the 2009/10 season on 15 August as the visitors to Bayliss Avenue are last seasons F.A. Vase semi-finalists, Lowerstoft Town.
The Mead then travel to across the Thames to face Romford the following Tuesday and play a traditional Boxing Day and New Year's local derby against our friends and rivals V.C.D. Full fixtures can be found here.

Big Fish Kamara-Taylor puts pen to paper
Tall striker Caleb Kamara-Taylor has put pen to paper, signing a one year contract with The Mead after leaving Fisher Athletic.

Constable signs as Watts and Kessell depart
Keith McMahon has finally captured striker Andy Constable - after four years of trying.
The ex Whitstable striker, signed from Sevenoaks Town, bolsters the squad for 2009/10 season as McMahons sixth signing of the close season. At the same time, after a good season with the club, keeper Tony Kessell leaves to play higher level football, while influential defender, Lew Watts, departs to become assistant manager at Chatham Town.
"Andy is a great addition. He's big, strong and will do a great job for us," said McMahon. "I'm sure he'll bag us a lot of goals. He is almost the last piece of the jigsaw, with one final big signing over the next few days."

Perona is latest signing
Right sided midfielder, Marcus Perona is Keith McMahon's latest signing. Marcus was previously at Thamesmead, playing under Terry Hill before moving to Whitstable where he made 208 appearances.
“He’s a player with energy, “ said McMahon, “he pretty much completes the signings that I want, although there may be one or two more to come in.”

McMahon makes more new signings
Thamesmead Town Manager, Keith McMahon, has been busy during the summer break, signing five new players, in addition to keeper Steve Northwood last week.
Youngster, Jack Hopkins has signed a one year contract as has Tom Hopkins. Speaking of Jack, McMahon said "I believe Jack will come through to the first team this year as did Lea Dawson last year. It shows we are building for the future by singing these young players."
The club are pleased to welcome back Lewis Towser after personal problems.
The other pair who have signed for The Mead are also big news for the club. Solid central defender, James Campbell, signs from Whitstable and quick left sided player, Grant Duff signs from Ramsgate.
Speaking of Campbell, McMahon sounded very pleased, "This is a very big signing for us, I have been chasing James since the end of last season and was one of my main tagets this summer so im over the moon to sign him. James experience with be invaluable. We had difficulties defending last year and with these signings along with Steve Northwood will help plug those areas"

Mulholland commits future to Mead

Influential midfielder, Scott Mulholland, commited his future to Thamesmead earlier this week along with the rest of the squad.
Despite approaches from other clubs, Mulholland commited himelf toThamesmead, stating that he is happy playing for the club and is looking forward to the future.
Manager Keith McMahon is delighted that Mulholland has commited himself to the club and is pleased that the rest of the squad have commited themselves too for the 2009/10 campaign. "This really helps the club build on last season and push on at an exciting time or the club," said Macmahon.

2009/10 preparations begin
As the redevelopment of Bayliss Avenue begins apace, it was announced last week that Thamesmead Town will remain in Ryman League Division 1 North in 2009/10 and will be joined by local rivals VCD. Click here to see the full constitution of the Ryman League for 2009/10.
Meanwhile, Thamesmead Manager Keith McMahon has arranged a full programme of pre season friendlies, beginning with a trip to Folkestone Invictor on 18th July. The first home match will be on 30 July against Tonbridge Angels. Click here to see the full pre-season programme..

Northwood's coming home
Experienced goalkeeper Steve Northwood returns to Thamesmead for a third time after manager Keith McMahon secured his services today.
Northwood originally signed from Cray Wanderers in 2001 after winning player of the year award and signed again as cover for two months in March 2007, where he helped The Mead to Kent League Cup success.
"I'm pleased to welcome him back as he's an excellent keeper," said McMahon. "This signing strengthens the squad and there will be more to follow."
