Dear's duo sign
Sunday 20 July 2008
Thamesmad manager Keith McMahon today announced the signing of forward paring Nick Smith & Steve White.
Both forwards were wih Erith & Belvedere last season, Smith ending the season as their leading goal scorer.
"I'm really pleased with how things are going," said an upbeat Keith McMahon. "These two signings, added to Danny Moore and Peter Smith give our squad strength in depth"
White has already appeared in the first two pre-season friendlies for Thamesmead.
Despite losing 3-0 to Welling and 6-0 to Fisher Athletic, it has given McMahon plenty of opportunity to test trialists and youth players against opposition from higher division.
"I've tried out eight new players in the first two games and despite the results, I've been impressed with the effort shown, particularaly in the first half of both maches," said McMahon
We'll have morere action to the signings and pre-season preparations after the match against Cray Wanderers on Tuesday.
McMahon makes second summer signing
Friday 4 July 2008
Keith McMahon today confirmed his second capture of the summer, signing midfielder Peter Smith.
Peter played for Greenwich Borough last year, where he performed well, mainly as an attacking midfielder. The signing follows the arrival of defender, Danny Moore earlier this week.
McMahon said, "I'm very pleased to have signed him, it's a massive signing for the club. He was being chased by a number of clubs including Croydon and Cray Wanderers, so I am glad he choose to sign for us."
"Peter can play in a number of positions and will add a great deal of quality to the side. He always wants the ball and is very good going forward, will chip in with a fair number of goals and he fits in to the squad that we already have."
"Peter could have chosen to sign for a club that offered him more money, he knew we couldn’t compete with most clubs in terms of finances but he has been down to pre-season (training) and he has really impressed me and he has enjoyed it. He likes the way that Thamesmead are heading as a club, and the way that we play football and the way we do things so he decided to put pen to paper."
Talking about the forthcoming season, McMahon continued, "I'm nearly complete in terms of a squad and I'm really happy with the strength in depth we have now. I’m not looking to sign too many more players, just maybe another centre forward and I think that I will have a squad that will push the club forward next season in the Ryman League."
"We are getting really excited now as the fixtures are only round the corner (to be announced 15 July). We have had our FA Cup and FA Trophy draws, both of which have paired us against our own league opposition. Again something we are looking forward to. We just can’t wait to get the season underway."
McMahon makes new signing as preparations begin
Tuesday 1 July 2008
Thamesmead town Manager Keith McMahon today announced his first new signing for 2008/09. Defender, Danny Moore joins Thamesmead as preparations begin for the new season in Ryman League Division One North.
McMahon is pleased to have captured the services of the Ex greenwich Borough and Beckenham Town, who can play at either left or center back, "I'm really pleased to have signed him, he fits in to the squad as the type of player im looking for. He's very quick, very comfortable on the ball and very good going forward as well as a very solid defender." Talking of further plans, McMahon continued, "I'm not looking to sign too many players, but there will be one or two more in the next week."
Moore joins the club during the second week of pre-season training, which McMahon is also pleased with. "I am really pleased with the way things are going with training. We have had around 30-35 players turn up and all are looking for a 1st team place. I am pleased with the level that last years squad have come back and with the addition of a few new faces then things look very good for the start of the season."
Off the pitch, work has continued with the organisation of match day operations and a working party working hard to clean the ground up in time for the first pre season friendly against Welling United.
